Don't Stop Me Now is a song by popular rock band Queen. The song would receive online attention after being used in a series of remix videos that use the song's upbeat tone for humorous effect.

Origin

The song was recorded in 1978 for Queen's seventh studio album Jazz.[1] It was released as a single the following year, where, at first, it received a moderate reception. As time went on however, the song became one of the band's better known tracks. The song's music video was uploaded by Queen's official YouTube channel on August 1st, 2008, and has gained over 232 million views (shown below).


The song began appearing online in artistic parodies and videos shortly after. One of the earliest was posted on November 29th, 2008 by LittleMetalDrop, and depicted a hand drawn cat character performing the song, gaining 44,000 views (shown below).

Spread

Over the following few years, other creators began including the song in various humorous videos. For example, user DrivaTheGenius uploaded footage from Grand Theft Auto V using the song on September 24th, 2013 and gained over 4,000 views (shown below, left). An animation by ObisamAnimations uploaded January 6th, 2014 depicting a emoticon-esque character singing the song gained over 3.6 million views (shown below, right).

The song remained a popular soundtrack for various remix videos in the ensuing years. A video posted by ZetaBionic pairing the song with Alola Exeggutor gained over 90,000 views (shown below, left). Another version with Shrek in a Source Filmmaker video gained over 250,000 views (shown below, right).
