About
Douglas Ross is a Scottish politician who is leader of the Scottish Conservative Party. He was elected unopposed in August 2020 and subsequently replaced Ruth Davidson and Jackson Carlaw. Douglas Ross has been subject to various memes due to gaffes and being tricked into questions on social media.
History
Douglas Ross was elected as a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) at the 2016 Scottish Parliament election, he subsequently resigned in the role as he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) at the UK Parliament in London at the 2017 United Kingdom general election. He was re-elected at the 2019 United Kingdom general election

Linesman Fall
On May 19th, 2018, Douglas Ross was the linesman for a match between Celtic and Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership. 75 minutes into the match, he tripped and fell down flat on his face. A video was posted on YouTube which was viewed 17,000 times.
The incident led to GIFs being created and photoshops which showed Douglas Ross fall on the pitch with the words "public scrutiny" added on to it.
Another was a photoshopped picture of it where Douglas Ross was on a leash next to the Prime Minister Boris Johnson, leader of the UK Conservative Party. There was also a second photoshopped picture where First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon was sitting on his back.
Facebook Live videos
On December 19th, 2020, Douglas Ross started doing Facebook Live videos where he answered questions from users on the platform. The majority of the questions were mostly spam and rude which mocked Douglas Ross and his party.
"I am not on magic mushrooms"
On January 22nd, 2021, during one of his live streams, Douglas Ross was asked by a user if he was on magic mushrooms[1] (see below)

Mike Oxsmells gaffe
On March 16th, 2021, Douglas Ross was tricked into answering a question from a Facebook user, "Mike Oxsmells"[2] who asked him why he was avoiding the tough questions, this was in response to questions which were raised about placing a vote of no confidence in Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland. Parody Twitter account
After the live stream, a Twitter account was created which parodied Douglas Ross with the name Mike Oxsmells which went viral gaining 2,000 followers within 72 hours. Including the likes were SNP MP Pete Wishart who tweeted about the account. The account was also mentioned in an article about the gaffe the day afterwards.
The account subsequently pretended to be a candidate for a by-election in Airdrie and Shotts, a Scottish constituency to the UK Parliament which is to elect a new MP on May 12th, 2021. The SNP candidate, Anum Qaisar Javed, also followed and tweeted about the account as well.
Murray Ross gaffe
Prime Minister Boris Johnson responded to a question from an SNP MP who asked him about Douglas Ross and his actions of not resigning his seat to contest in the 2021 Scottish Parliament election. In response, Boris Johnson accidentally got Douglas Ross' name wrong and called him, "Murray Ross". (see below)
Party political broadcasts
On a party political broadcast which was released ahead of the 2021 Scottish Parliament election campaign, it featured Douglas Ross on why voters should choose the Scottish Conservatives when casting their ballot for them. (see below)

At the end of the broadcast, he stated "Back my team for an alternative to the SNP – for a stronger Scotland", however the subtitles video released on the social media read "the SNP – for a stronger Scotland". The video, which was posted on the Scottish Conservatives' Twitter account and Douglas Ross' own account, promoted several people to create GIFs, pictures and reuploaded videos of the subtitle gaffe (see below).

"You Just Can't Colin"
On April 13th, 2021, Douglas Ross participated in the leaders debate ahead of the 2021 Scottish Parliament election. When asked by the moderator of the debate, Colin Mackay, if it was possible to focus on a recovery of COVID-19 and having an independence referendum at the same time, he replied with "You just can't Colin" (see below)
