Drake's "Laugh Now, Cry Later" is a single by Canadian rapper Drake featuring Lil Durk that was released in August 2020 with a music video shot at the Nike headquarters. The music video spawned several memes on Twitter and Reddit. Images of Drake crying and Drake peaking around a stack of Nike shoe boxed taken from the video accumulated captions online.
Origin
On August 13th, 2020, Drake released the official music video for "Laugh Now, Cry Later" ft. Lil Dunk (shown below). The video gained over 26.3 million views and 1.3 million likes in five days.
Spread
On August 14th, 2020, Twitter user @AstasiaWill[1] posted a screenshot of Drake looking behind boxes of Nike shoes and captioned it, "when sponsorship sees social having too much fun with content without a logo placement" (shown below, left). The tweet garnered over 1,400 likes and 180 retweets in four days. That same day, Twitter user @JunaeBrown[2] used the same screenshot in a tweet captioned, "How men appear in the dms after you post a good photo" which received over 13,500 likes and 4,000 retweets in four days (shown below, right).
That day, Twitter user @AshleyKSmalls shared a clip of Drake crying and captioned it, "Me when my job asks me to do the work they pay me to do" (shown below). The post accumulated over 4,100 likes and 1,400 retweets in four days. StayHipp[3][4] published articles on the images of Drake crying and Drake peaking about a stack of boxes.
