About

Draymond Green is an American professional basketball player best known online as a key forward on the Golden State Warriors and for his violent outbursts on the court, which have led to him serving multiple suspensions. This has led to numerous memes online where Green's play is parodied as excessively violent.

History

Draymond Green was born in Michigan on March 4th, 1990.[1] He played college basketball at Michigan State from 2008-2012 and was selected in the second round of the 2012 draft by the Golden State Warriors, where he's played for the entirety of his professional career as of December 2023.

Green has won four championships with the Warriors, been selected to multiple all-star teams, and has earned multiple honors for his defensive play in his career, winning Defensive Player of the Year in 2017.

Controversies

Throughout his career, Green has been known as an intensely physical player on the court, and has committed or been involved in several violent outbursts. One of the first high-profile incidents came in the 2016 NBA finals, where the Warriors Blew a 3-1 Lead. In Game 5, Green swung wildly at LeBron James, leading to Green's suspension in Game 6.

Incidents involving Green continued happening in the early 2020s, notably since when he punched teammate Jordan Poole at a preseason practice.



Draymond Green Stomp

Draymond Green Stomp refers to a moment in the 2023 NBA playoffs when Golden State Warriors player Draymond Green got entangled with Sacramento Kings player Domantas Sabonis and appeared to slam his foot on his abdomen in order to free himself. The moment got Green ejected from the basketball game and inspired jokes and memes on social media referencing the incident, with many comparing Green's supposed "stomp" to wrestling moves.



Jusuf Nirkic Punch And Indefinite Suspension

On December 12th, 2023, Draymond Green swung wildly at Phoenix Sun player Jusuf Nirkic, hitting him in the face (shown below).



Green had already been disciplined during the season for putting Rudy Goebert in a headlock during an altercation earlier in the season (shown below, left). In another game, he tackled a player to the ground while attempting to grab a rebound (shown below, right).



The increased frequency of these incidents led the NBA to suspend Green indefinitely.

Online Presence

Green's numerous violent altercations on the court have led to myriad jokes at his expense. For example, on December 13th, 2023, Twitter user yosoyguapojr[2] posted a video joking about Green immediately getting violent after his suspension, gaining over 2,000 retweets and 18,000 likes in one week (shown below, top). On December 14th, user @jxyyswrld[3] posted a satirical "highlight reel" of Green's violent moments, gaining over 15,000 retweets and 55,000 likes in a similar time frame (shown below, bottom).

Draymond Green Talking to Kevin Durant refers to a gif of Draymond Green talking to teammate Kevin Durant during a game. The gif has been used as an image macro on Twitter with many people captioning what they think Green is saying.

On April 16th, 2017, the Golden State Warriors basketball team played the Portland Trailblazers in the NBA playoffs. During the game, cameras caught player Draymond Green speaking to teammate Kevin Durant.

Several hours after the game, on April 17th, Twitter user @TalkWithTone posted a gif of the talk to Twitter with the caption "Your mum trying to cover you with the blood of Jesus before you leave the house." The tweet received more than 6,900 retweets and 8,300 likes.
