About

Eat Whatever My Mom Makes refers to the idea that in order to become strong and muscular like an alpha or a Chad, one must eat whatever food their mom makes instead of dieting or calorie-counting. The trend became notable on TikTok in early 2022 through before-and-after, comparison-style videos.

Origin

On August 8th, 2021, TikToker[1] ka.reeem posted a video that used a Kim Kardashian sound and had text reading, "Kareem has been lifting for 5 years now but still refuses to start diet," with his description reading, "I just eat whatever my mom cooks." The video earned roughly 407,200 plays and 72,400 likes in eight months (shown below).

Spread

Although the aforementioned TikTok was the first use of the idea in memes, it wasn't until early 2022 that the trend took off en masse. This was started by TikToker[2] adam7474 on January 31st, 2022, who used the song "Can You Feel My Heart," by Bring Me The Horizon and stated in text overlay that on the video that he opted for whatever his mom makes over counting calories and macronutients. Over the course of three months, the video earned roughly 3.6 million plays and 760,900 likes (shown below).

On February 3rd, 2022, TikToker[3] llatanca posted a video in which he flexed his muscles and "physique" for the camera, stating that at 19-years-old, in order to get his physique, he ate whatever his mom cooked. In two months, the TikTok gained roughly 1.5 million plays and 318,000 likes (shown below, left). Going into February and March 2022, more male TikTokers associated with the #GymTok community continued to make content that followed the trend. For instance, on March 9th, 2022, TikToker[4] naturally_enhanced posted a video that earned roughly 2.9 million plays and 502,600 likes in one month (shown below, right).

As the trend progressed, the videos became increasingly creative. For instance, TikToker[5] professionalbeyblader posted a video on March 10th, 2022, that used the red-eye TikTok filter to show that his Virgin character was crying. His video earned roughly 32,100 plays and 7,800 likes in one month (shown below, left). TikToker[6] archiecollins453 used multiple images of GigaChad in video they posted on February 3rd, 2022, earning roughly 461,300 plays and 70,000 likes in two months (shown below, right).
