Overview.
The Half-Life Subreddit Meltdown refers to the state of the Half-Life Subreddit following the 2025 Game Awards where many users of the subreddit, disappointed in the lack of any Half-Life 3/HLX news and frustration with the 2025 Game Awards, took to the subreddit to post what could best be described as analog-horror-esque posts relating to Half-Life 3, Gabe Newell, and Geoff Keighley. Many Half-Life fans believed that the third and final installment in the franchise would be announced either at the Game Awards, or at least by the end of 2025 (of which the Friday right after the Game Awards was the last potential day for any announcement, come and passed).
Background.
2024 Game Awards Half-Life 3 Rumors.
The 2024 Game Awards were surrounded by rumors about an upcoming Half-Life 3 announcement at the awards, which never occurred.[1]
Mike Shapiro (GMan's Voice Actor)'s Cryptic X(Formerly Twitter) Post.
On December 31, 2024, the Voice Actor for G-Man, a prominent Half-Life Character, posted a cryptic New Year's post on X(Formerly Twitter) that many Half-Life fans interpreted to mean there will be big news related to Half Life in 2025.[2]
Steam/Valve Hardware Announcements & Rumors
On November 12, 2025, Valve announced 3 new additions to its hardware collection, them being a new Steam Machine, a new Steam Controller, and the Steam Frame.[3]
Following the announcement, user @MikeStrawMedia on X posted: [4]
"BTW, Valve isn't done with the big announcements. Soon enough there's going to be something else", resulting in a surge of rumors and memes and "Hopium" (A meme hijacked by the Half-Life Community), especially Gordon Freeman edits of the Soyjak Shot With Hope Syringe meme, practically becoming a meme in of itself.
The 2025 Game Awards
Nearing the Game Awards, many were beginning to theorize about the Game Awards having a potential HL3 announcement, repeating last year's cycle of rumors. The 2025 Game Awards had nothing Valve related, sending the HalfLife subreddit into a spiral.
Spread
In the final minutes of the 2025 Game Awards, multiple posts were posted by various users to the HalfLife subreddit, complaining about the lack of a Half Life announcement and pointing the blame at Geoff Keighley and Megaman.

Not long after, users began to post analog-horror-esque posts, most now deleted.

In the following hours, multiple compilations were uploaded to YouTube, X, and back onto the subreddit. The situation prompted an official response from the Megaman subreddit [5]
