Overview

DC Fandome is an upcoming online fan convention hosted by Warner Bros. Studios and DC Comics. The event advertisements announcements regarding the upcoming films, television shows, comic books and video games within the DC Comics "Multiverse." Warner Bros advertises trailers and interviews with stars and creators, as well as "special presentations to engage fans in every time zone across the globe, you’ll have the opportunity to have an experience that’s all your own." The event is scheduled for August 22nd, 2020.

History

On June 16th, 2020, DC Comics announced the convention on their blog.[1] They announced that the digital event would be coordinated around the world, highlighting programs for fans in different time zones around the world.

Chair and CEO of Warner Bros. Ann Sarnoff said in the announcement:

There is no fan like a DC fan. For more than 85 years, the world has turned to DC’s inspiring heroes and stories to lift us up and entertain us, and this massive, immersive digital event will give everyone new ways to personalize their journey through the DC Universe without lines, without tickets and without boundaries. With DC FanDome, we’re able to give fans from around the world an exciting and unparalleled way to connect with all their favorite DC characters, as well as the incredible talent who bring them to life on the page and screen.

DC Hall of Heroes

The DC Hall of Heroes is the "epicenter of the DC FanDome." From here, attendees can move to other areas of the convention.

DC WatchVerse

DC WatchVerse is where panels and announcements take place. Fans watch panels, screenings and behind-the-scenes footage.

DC YouVerse

DC YouVerse is for fan-created content, including cosplay and fan art.

DC KidsVerse

DC KidsVerse "features a broad range of family-friendly activations for our younger fans."

DC InsiderVerse

DC InsiderVerse focuses on the DC creators and gives fans behind-the-scenes insight into the creation of DC characters.

DC FunVerse

DC FunVerse is for games and "sharables." Fans participate in "digital giveaways" and access merchandise shop.

Reception

On August 7th, 2020, DC Comics official Twitter account announced the stars attending the event. They wrote, "👏🏼 Most 👏🏽 Epic 👏🏿 Lineup 👏🏻 Ever 👏🏾 Free for all fans globally to join for 24-hours only on August 22 at http://DCFanDome.com. #DCFanDome." The post received more than 560,000 views, 12,000 likes and 3,700 retweets in less than one week (shown below).

That day, some of those celebrities tweeted about the event. Dwayne Johnson, star of the upcoming Black Adam adaptation tweeted,[2] "THEY NEEDED A HERO. INSTEAD THEY GOT MEHigh voltage signBlack heart Excited for the first-ever global celebration of the DC Multiverse – #DCFanDome! This one’s just for you – THE FANS AROUND THE WORLD! Stay healthy, my friends, and I’ll see you all on August 22nd! Tumbler glass -The Man In Black #BlackAdam." The tweet received more than 278,000 views, 19,000 likes and 4,500 retweets in less than one week (shown below, left).

The Batman director Matt Reeves tweeted,[3] "Incredibly excited to see everyone at #DCFanDome on August 22nd -- can't wait to share more about #TheBatman with you…" The tweet received more than 404,000 views, 19,000 likes and 5,400 retweets in less than one week (shown below, right).

The official Wonder Woman Twitter account, for example, features Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot. The post received more than 289,000 views, 18,000 likes and 3,100 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below).
