Overview
Indonesia Indihome Internet Outage refers to the September 2021 nationwide outage of Indonesian national internet service provider (ISP) Indihome.
Background
On September 19th, 2021, Indonesian ISP Indihome and phone operator Telkomsel, both a Telkom Indonesia subsidiary, tweeted[1][2] announcements that internet service from both companies were experiencing technical problems, affecting customers who lived in Java Island, Bali Island, Borneo Island, Celebes Island, Natuna Island, and East Timor[7] The tweets received more than 3,000 likes, 3,200 comments, and 3,500 likes, 1,300 comments, respectively (shown below, left, center, and right).
Developments
According to Indonesian media outlet Kompas[3], the outage was caused by a technical problem with Indonesia's communication undersea cable called Sistem Komunikasi Kabel Laut (Eng. Submarine Cable Communication System).
On September 21st, 2021, Indihome's official Facebook[4] page uploaded an announcement claiming the technical issue had been resolved, though as of 06:00 AM, there were still internet problems in several affected regions according to the comment post's comments. It received more than 990 reactions and 739 shares in less than one day (shown below).
Online Reactions
The Indihome outage trended among disgruntled customers; according to Kompas,[3] the keywords "Indihome" and "Telkomsel" trended in Indonesia on September 20th, 2021, receiving more than 99,000 and 40,900 tweets, respectively (shown below, left). On September 21st, 2021, the #indihome hashtag trended in Indonesia on Twitter[5] (shown below, right).
On September 20th, 2021, TikTok[6] user @daniel..921 uploaded a video explaining why Indihome and Telkomsel were having problems. The video received more than 8.3 million views in one day (shown below, left). On the same day, TikTok[8] user @fu_shifu uploaded a video of a girl crying with an image of a fake quote from the Joker says "Orang jahat lahir dari orang baik yang pasang Indihome" (Eng. A bad person was born from good person who installed Indihome). The video received more than 250,000 views in one day (shown below, right).

On September 21st, 2021, Twitter[9] user @zidan_m41 uploaded a Traumatized Mr. Incredible meme depicting himself trying to access the internet using Indihome at 1 AM and 10 AM. The tweet received 555 likes and 85 retweets (shown below, left). On September 19th, 2021, Facebook[10] user Abimanyu Nugroho uploaded an image macro using an image from Barnyard with the caption "Bajingan lo Indihome" (Eng. Fuck you Indihome ). The image received 600 reactions and more than 2,100 shares (shown below, center). On September 20th, 2021, Facebook[11] user Ismail Bin Rojali uploaded a SpongeBob SquarePants meme about the incident, receiving more than 12,000 reactions and 1,700 shares (shown below, right).
