Online History
On December 1st, 2015, James Charles[1] joined YouTube. In four years the channel has accumulated over 14 million subscribers and one billion views.
On March 3rd, 2016, Charles uploaded his first video to YouTube entitled "BLUE/BROWN SERPENT Makeup Tutorial | JCharlesBeauty." The video has gained over 900,000 views and 29,000 likes three years (shown below, left). His most popular video was uploaded on October 9th, 2018 and features Kylie Jenner The video has garnered over 25 million views and one million likes in three months (shown below, right).
Meet and Greet In the UK
On January 22nd, 2019, Morphe Brushes[2] announced the opening of a new Morphe store in the UK and a visit by James Charles. The tweet gained over 1,000 tweets and 19,000 likes in a couple of weeks (shown below).
On January 26th, several news sources reported on James Charles' arrival and the massive amount of crowds involved. The BBC News reported a Traffic Jam (shown below, left). On January 27th, Charles responded on Twitter to a report that he was virtually unknown (shown below, right). The tweet gained over 7,000 retweets and 138,000 likes.
On January 28th, James Charles tweeted that he called into a radio program that was talking about him (shown below, left). The tweet gained 6,000 retweets and 180,000 likes. The same day, a video of the conversation was uploaded to YouTube by Jedi Watching (shown below, right). The video has gained over 22,000 views in a week.
Sex Tape Rumors
On January 27th, Twitter users[3] began spreading a rumor of an alleged sex tape (shown below).
On January 28th, James Charles responded with a tweet[4] saying it was impossible as he was still a virgin (shown below). The tweet accumulated 19,600 retweets and 343,000 likes in a week.
Fans Trolled By Parody Account
On January 23rd YouTuber Akpommed reported on the, since then deleted, Twitter trolling comments between alleged parody account Azak Fever and James Charles. The video gained 2,392 views in a month (shown below, left). He explains, it began with James Charles tweet, "What’s your favorite step of your makeup routine? Mine are eyeshadow and baking solely, because I love how it looks LMFAO."[5] On February 28th, PewDiePie reported on the incident explaining how Azak Fever was angry at Charles fans for "tricking" him into saying he would have sex with James Charles (shown below, right). PewDiePie's video gained six million views an 406,000 likes in a week.
Iggy Azalea's Makeup
On February 21st, 2019, Singer Iggy Azalea tweeted "When I tell you that James Charles literally drove in a snow storm seventeen million miles plus a flight and hasn’t slept more than 2 hours in 2 days to do my makeup today iam not exaggerating. Come the fuck through" (shown below). The tweet gained 3,492 retweets and 51,194 likes in four days.

That day, James Charles[6] responded in a tweet saying "Got you sis let’s kill it" which accumulated 3,800 retweets and 103,600 likes in four days (shown below). Fans speculate that they are collaborating on a music video.
Sexual Harassment Allegations
In April 2019, James Charles was seen at Coachella with Gage Gomez. Charles responded to a picture of the two of them on Twitter by saying that Gomez was a "con artist" and has since deleted the tweet. On April 18th, 2019, Gage Gomez uploaded his first YouTube video which addresses Charles response to the their photo and denies being a con artist. The video gained over 168,000 views and 4,600 likes in a month (shown below, left). On April 29th, Gomez uploaded a second video accusing James Charles of putting pressure on him to do things he did not want to do. In the video, he never stated that he was bi-curious (shown below, right).
On May 1st, YouTuber The Viewers Voice uploaded a video of alleged text messages between Charles and Gomez (shown below). The video gained over 170,000 views and 4,600 likes in eight days. Gomez reveals that he was bi-curious and decided at Coachcella that he wasn't attracted.
On May 4th, James Charles[7] tweeted a response to the whole scandal apologizing for how it was handled and said that Gomez led him on (shown below). The tweet gained over 4,900 retweets and 91,300 likes in four days.
Two days later, Twitter @tea44801323[8] reposted a picture of them at Coachcella and a screenshot of Charles initial response to the picture that has since been deleted (shown below).

James Charles Jumpscare refers to remixes of YouTuber James Charles popping into frame while saying, "Hi sisters!" as an attempt to scare people.
On April 4th, 2017, James Charles uploaded the video in which he performed the scene (shown below). The video gained over nine million views.
The video was made after a recent spread of jokes regarding makeup Charles wore to a meet-and-greet with fans (shown below).
On July 31st, 2017, YouTuber thatbihhjasmine uploaded an edit which put the clip into the trailer for Ouija, gaining over 550,000 views (shown below, left). Ross Castillo uploaded early example appearing on April 15th, 2018, using the Unfriended trailer but with the James Charles jumpscare (shown below).
