Llorona Estrogen Dosing / Forced Transition Controversy

Overview

Llorona Estrogen Dosing Controversy, also known as Llorona Forced Transition Controversy, refers to a story about the Tennessee hardcore band Llorona, which announced the firing of its singer Diego in late February 2024 after it was revealed that he had allegedly been dosing another bandmate (the bassist named Sixx) with estrogen in an attempt to steal his fiance (Caroline). Social media quickly reacted with shock and amusement to the story and the band’s announcement, specifically in regards to the singer’s reasoning that making his bandmate involuntarily consume estrogen by sneaking it into his protein powder would make him look “stronger and more manly in comparison.”

Background

Llorona announced the news in a lengthy post to the band's Instagram Story on February 25th, 2024. The account, @llorona.hc,^[8] has since been deleted. According to the post, vocalist Diego had allegedly been dosing bassist Sixx's protein powder with estrogen, believing that it would make his bandmate appear more effeminate so that he could look "stronger and more manly in comparison" in an attempt to impress Sixx's fiance, Caroline. The since-deleted post is now widely accessible due to frequent reposting by various internet users and news outlets, such as Daily Mail,^[1] which covered the story on February 26th, 2024 (reupload seen below).

We have decided to part ways with our vocalist Diego due to admission of very disturbing and concerning behavior towards one of our band members and their partner. He has admitted to being obsessed with said partner, and has been attempting to sabotage their relationship by cutting pre workout he frequently gifts from his job with high amounts of estrogen in them. He has been attempting to force a transition onto him for the last 5 months, in hopes that would give him the opportunity to ‘swoop in’ once he looked stronger and more manly in comparison. (Stupid cave man mindset that makes zero sense) This tampering has caused confusion and thousands of dollars in medical bills the past months trying to figure out whats wrong.

We would not know any of this unless Diego had gotten way too intoxicated and ousted himself, and then stated an admission to all of this via text. There are many more disgusting details that have been left out for the sake of privacy and general censorship.”

“As for Diego’s response, it cannot be further from the truth on the supplement side of things. The only sealed products he would provide were proteins, but the other products were always unsealed because they were tossed at his job if they couldn’t sell it hence why it was free.

He also has easy access to steroids and hormones because of his gym practices. I am going to be seeing an endocrinologist over the next few months to track my hormonal fluctuations to see if my estrogen levels are extremely heightened and go back to normal over time. I have had physical changes from the hormones besides stomach ulcers, weight loss, and muscle fatigue that I will not get into, as well as notable mental changes.

I will also be getting the last batch of pre workout he gave me tested for estrogen, I have about 2-3 full cups of it left. He will not pass off what he admitted to as a joke or confusion even in his state of drunkenness. What he did is disgusting and has had an immense negative effect on my life.

Later in the post, Sixx directly reports experiencing adverse effects on his health, described as "physical changes from the hormones besides stomach ulcers, weight loss, and muscle fatigue that I will not get into, as well as notable mental changes." According to the article by Daily Mail, Diego admitted to dosing his bandmate with estrogen via text while on a drinking binge and later confessed a second time, also while under the influence.

Online Reactions

The story quickly garnered reactions on social media as it spread. One notable post about the controversy comes from a response on February 25th, 2024, posted to Twitter / X^[2] by user @infinitegaze, who called it the "craziest shit I've ever seen." It includes an original screenshot of the band's Instagram Story and earned 119,000 likes and 7,600 reposts in less than three days (seen below).

X^[3] user Slatzism reacted to the news on February 26th, saying they "couldn't possibly be laughing any harder." The original tweet earned over 2,100 likes and 300 retweets in just over a day (shown below, left), and @Slatzism then followed up by posting a picture of Sixx, whom Diego was reportedly trying to make less manly, earning 600 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).

The news also spread to Reddit, where it gained attention on the subreddit /r/nottheonion.^[4] Posted by /u/DamnitRidley on February 26th, 2024, the post shared the news with a link to Theprp.com,^[5] gaining 3,500 likes and 235 comments in less than two days. On February 25th, the Instagram Story was also reposted to the /r/Hardcore^[9] sub, receiving over 1,200 upvotes and 300 comments in three days.

By the following day, the news also spread to TikTok,^[6] where user @jesealee posted a video discussing it on February 27th, gaining 50,100 likes and 359,400 views in less than a day (seen below, left). Another February 27th TikTok^[7] by @blacqlight joked about the situation with a related TikTok audio about "forcibly" feminizing someone, which earned 1,770 views and 140 likes in eight hours (seen below, right).

Developments

As of February 28th, 2024, the band's Instagram has not been reactivated. Sixx stated that he was holding onto some of his unused protein powder to have it tested for estrogen. It is currently unknown what charges, if any, Diego will face for the estrogen dosing of his bandmate.
