Overview

Monroe Cheerleader Coach Scandal refers to allegations levied against Coach Audri Williams (Audrianna Williams) of Monroe Comprehensive High School in Albany, Georgia, who was accused of having inappropriate relations with a 17-year-old male student. After text messages and a photo of her allegedly kissing the student went viral on Facebook and TikTok in December 2023, reactions and memes ensued as the school launched an investigation into the matter. Coach Williams was already a viral TikTok influencer before the allegations on her account @audriwill_ and the Monroe Cheerleading team was also viral on TikTok (@monroecheerleaders). So, when the rumors spread to TikTok, notable reactions occurred from the page's fans and followers.

Background

Before the scandal in December 2023, Coach Audrianna Williams had been posting to TikTok^[1] since March 2020. She went largely viral starting in October 2022, with a TikTok^[2] that gained over 1.2 million plays in a year (shown below, left).

In 2023, she continued to go viral, evident in a TikTok^[3] shared on February 10th, 2023, that gained over 17.2 million plays in 10 months (shown below, right).

By December 14th, 2023, Coach Audrianna Williams' TikTok^[4] account had amassed over 651,800 followers and over 24.9 million likes. Meanwhile, the TikTok^[5] page for her Monroe Cheerleaders (@monroecheerleaders) had amassed over 118,200 followers.

Allegations

Sometime on or before December 13th, 2023, the Facebook^[6] account Albany Shaderoom posted a DM screenshot that related to Coach Williams, allegedly showing her kissing a young male student. A screenshot of the Facebook post was reposted by TikToker^[7] @tiaraamalone in a photo slideshow on December 13th, gaining roughly 19,200 plays in a day (shown below).

Also on December 13th, 2023, TikToker^[8] @tiaraamalone reposted a video posted by private Facebook^[9] user Ft Cosha that allegedly showed Coach Williams with the male student in a private setting, gaining roughly 658,200 plays and 7,200 likes in a day (shown below).

Developments

Dougherty County School System's Response

Later on December 13th, 2023, Albany, Georgia local news station WALB^[10] published a short article about the allegations. WALB did not specify that it was Coach Williams. However, WALB did quote a statement from the Dougherty County School System, reading:

The district takes these types of accusations seriously and is committed to conducting a comprehensive and fair investigation. If any violation of the district’s policies or the law is uncovered, the district will take the appropriate action.

Online Reaction

After the rumors broke on social media, reactions surfaced en masse. For instance, on December 13th, 2023, TikToker^[11] @denishalashayy_ posted a video in which she expressed shock, receiving roughly 631,400 plays and 64,800 likes in one day (shown below).

As a part of TikToker^[7] @tiaraamalone's initial photo slideshow, she also included screenshots of reactions from private Facebook users seemingly from the Albany, Georgia area or even enrolled at Monroe Comprehensive High School (examples shown below).
