Overview

November 2024 Ohio Neo-Nazi March refers to a neo-nazi march in the city of Columbus, Ohio, in which a group of masked individuals marched through the streets dressed in black while holding black flags with red swastikas on them. The march occurred in mid-November 2024, being widely debated and criticized on the internet shortly after as netizens shared videos of the neo-nazis shouting hateful chants and speeches while walking in Columbus.

Background

On November 16th, 2024, several netizens started to share footage of a group of neo-nazis[1] carrying flags with swastikas on them while walking through the Short North region of Columbus, Ohio. X[2] user @tyycolly posted a video showing a dozen individuals marching wearing all black with masks featuring a red skull (since deleted) and shouting racial slurs and other hate speech. The video amassed over 4 million views and 56,000 likes in two days.

X[7] user @KingJROCOLUMBUS posted a similar video on the same day (seen below), receiving more than 54,000 views and 335 likes in two days.


According to The Columbus Dispatch,[6] police said there were no arrests after officers were dispatched to check on the neo-nazis marching.

Online Reactions

As the neo-nazi group marched across Columbus, netizens posted videos and images of the group on Reddit, Instagram and X, condemning their actions and igniting a debate regarding the motivations and identity of the individuals that participated in the march.

For example, on November 16th, 2024, X[3] user @DeaconBlues0 uploaded a picture of the neo-nazis (seen below), writing "This is not 1937 Germany. It is today in Columbus, OH," which amassed more than 252,000 likes and 34,000 reposts in two days.

On November 17th, Redditor[4] u/DryFly4438 uploaded a picture to the subreddit /r/the_everything_bubble from inside a restaurant showing the neo-nazis marching (seen below), which received roughly 640 upvotes and 290 comments in a day.



On November 16th, 2024, Ohio's governor Mike DeWine posted a statement on X[5] claiming that there is no space for "hate, bigotry, antisemitism or violence" in the state of Ohio. The tweet (seen below) garnered more than 5,200 likes and 740 reposts in two days.
