About
Communazi is a portmanteau of the political ideologies communism and Nazism. Typically used as a colloquial term for the National Bolshevik Party, also known as Nazbol, communazi has been used online to describe a person who espouses both communist and nazi ideals and as a hyperbolic descriptor for something or someone that is seen as an enemy.
Origin
According to Wikipedia, [1] Time magazine coined the term on September 11th, 1939, following a neutrality pact between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. The officially titled "Molotov-Ribentrop Pact" was informally called the "Communazi Pact."
Spread
On March 17th, 2004, Urban Dictionary [2] user David Wilson defined communazi as "a strange term invented by Emmanuel Rondon after hearing about the Nazi-Soviet Pact during World War II."
Two years later, Urban Dictionary[2] user Frankie Muniz defined it as "A person who is both a communist and a nazi, or atleast acts in that manner. A communist that hates people or other races/minorities is cosidered to be a communazi." The post received more than 110 upvotes in less than 14 years (shown below).
Since then, the term communazi has been used in a variety of memes about the combination of the two political parties. For example, on March 29th, 2020, Redditor [3] XxWaffles09xX posted "comunazis" flag and a Bojack Horseman reaction image stating "What is this, a crossover episode?" The post received more than 39,000 points (96% upvoted) and 340 comments in less than one week (shown below).
