Overview

PC Siqueira Suicide refers to the death of famous Brazilian YouTuber Paulo Cezar Goulart Siqueira, otherwise known as PC Siqueira. He was considered part of the first generation of Brazilian YouTubers and also hosted some programs on MTV’s Brazil between 2011 and 2013. In 2020, an alleged exchange of messages in which PC admitted acts of pedophilia became a viral topic on the internet, leading to a police investigation on charges of child pornography. After the case went viral, Siqueira changed the name of his YouTube channel and reported financial problems in the following years. He was found dead in his house on December 27th, 2023, and the police determined the cause of death as suicide, especially after testimony from his girlfriend, Maria Watanabe.

Background

PC Siqueira was a Brazilian vlogger, YouTuber and presenter. He had more than 2 million subscribers to his YouTube[1] account before his account was deleted on June 16th, 2020, after he was the target of accusations of pedophilia,[2] being one of the great vloggers of the so-called "first generation of YouTubers in Brazil." He also hosted programs on channels such as MTV Brazil, PlayTV and TBS Brazil.

Developments

PC Siqueira’s Child Pornography Accusation

On June 10th, 2020, the Brazilian journalist @erlan_bastos[3] shared screenshots of an alleged conversation with PC Siqueira in which he shared naked photos of a 6-year-old. The post (shown below) amassed over 2,600 likes and 439 retweets in three years.

In the alleged conversation[4], PC Siqueira would talk to a friend, whose name was hidden, saying that a woman had sent the naked photos of her daughter. "She stopped because she knows it can get troublesome," the YouTuber allegedly said.

A police investigation started as soon as the case became a viral topic in Brazil and, on February 23rd, 2021, they concluded that no evidence of pedophilia was found against PC Siqueira. The police report[5] says PC did not store or share photos or videos of pornographic content of minors, did not have conversations with other people about the subject and did not search sites on the subject.

PC Siqueira Suicide

PC Siqueira died on December 27th, 2023. He was found already lifeless in the apartment where he lived in Santo Amaro, south of the city of São Paulo. The cause of death is still being investigated by the police, but some news tabloids alleged it was suicide by hanging.[6] The news website UOL's official YouTube[7] channel posted a video about the incident (shown below), which amassed over 102,000 views and 2,600 likes in a day.

Online Reactions

The YouTuber’s death became a viral topic on the internet, with some users celebrating the incident in retrospect of his pedophilia accusations. For instance, on December 28th, 2023, X[7] user posted a video of a funeral paired with the caption celebrating his demise and saying “God knows all things.” The post (shown below) received more than 374,000 views and 2,000 likes in a few hours.

On the same day, X[8] user @daneldix shared a video two Brazilian journalists hugging on live TV to represent PC Siqueira meeting Olavo De Carvalho, a far-right Brazilian self-proclaimed philosopher, in Hell. The post (shown below) garnered over 264,000 views and 2,000 likes in a few hours.
