Overview

Wendy Williams Guardianship Controversy, also known as Wendy Williams Dementia Diagnosis or March 2025 Wendy Williams Hospitalized Controversy, refers to the former talk show host Wendy Williams's frontotemporal dementia diagnosis revealed in February 2024, which culminated in Williams being placed under a court-ordered guardianship after her bank sent a letter to New York Supreme Court Judge Arlene Bluth requesting a hearing about her mental health. In early March 2025, Williams was hospitalized following a welfare check by the NYPD after she reportedly dropped a note out of her window asking for help. In the hospital, the celebrity was deemed mentally competent after passing a psychiatric evaluation with a perfect score, which sparked a debate about the authenticity of her dementia diagnosis and opened an investigation against her family for elder abuse. Online, Wendy's guardianship became a viral topic on Twitter / X, Reddit and TikTok, spawning memes and jokes celebrating the talk show host's mental capacities and likely return to the media.
