Fake Ty Dolla Sign and Kanye West Texts refers to a series of fake text messages between rappers Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign, who have notably collaborated under the moniker ¥$ for the release of the Vultures album series. The texts, largely created by X / Twitter user @KonnyTalks, depict the two rappers having an interaction with each other in which West regularly misinterprets or misunderstands Ty. The earliest known fake text was posted in December 2023 with more being posted between June and August 2024, gaining viral spread through reposts.
Origin
On December 25th, 2023, X[1] user @konnytalks posted a screenshot of a fake text exchange between Ty Dolla $ign and Kanye West in which West complains to Ty about getting coal in his stalking and not having a family to spend time with on Christmas, writing, "Ty Dolla posts and deletes what appears to be a Christmas rant from Kanye 😳 Do you think he deserved coal this year⁉️" garnering over 3,100 likes in eight months. This is the earliest known example of the meme.
Spread
On June 6th, 2024, KonnyTalks started posting more fake texts between Ye and Ty to X.[2] On June 18th, the user posted a fake text to X[3] in which Ye misunderstands the meaning of the term "rizz", garnering over 35,000 likes in two months.
On July 14th, KonnyTalks posted a fake text to X[4] in which the rappers discuss the Donald Trump assassination attempt, garnering over 21,000 likes in a month. On August 10th, the X[5] user posted a series of fake texts in which Ty asked Ye why it's "¥$" instead of "$¥," garnering over 65,000 likes in three weeks.
On August 21st, X[6] user @KonnyTalks posted a set of original fake text memes in which Ye suggests that Ty open a Thai food restaurant called "Ty Land," garnering around 500 likes in a week. On August 28th, X[7] user @ratio79110358 reposted the meme, garnering over 118,000 likes in a day.
