Fanum Throwing Broccoli is a series of memes, including video edits, based on a clip of Twitch streamer Fanum throwing a plate of broccoli behind him at streamer Kai Cenat.

The clip was popularized as an exploitable meme format in September 2026. As a meme, the clip is often paired with captions about procrastinating on something or tossing something that isn't immediately important away. One of the most popular versions of the memes edits the clip to include an explosion after the broccoli is thrown.

The clip originally went viral in May 2023 around the time of the Fanum Tax meme, which is about Fanum taxing people for a portion of their food.

Origin

On May 31st, 2023, the Fanum Live YouTube^[1] channel uploaded a short taken from one of Kai Cenat's streams. In the clip, Kai Cenat surprises Fanum with a plate of broccoli. After seeing the broccoli, Fanum throws it behind him, at Cenat, in a rage and storms off. This happened in the same timeframe as the "Fanum Tax" meme, a slang term referring to the act of giving someone a portion of your food as a "Fanum tax," based on a joke about Fanum taxing people's food. The video gained over 7.6 million views in three years.

Fanum later said during a stream, while talking about the broccoli clip, that you do not need to eat vegetables.^[2]

On July 18th, 2026, TikToker^[3] @..krome posted an edit of the clip that adds an explosion after Fanum throws the broccoli, garnering over 1.1 million views in two months.

Memes using the Fanum broccoli clip were popularized on sites including TikTok and YouTube throughout September 2026. Many of the memes use the exploding broccoli clip.

On September 8th, 2026, TikToker^[4] @user543148335 posted a meme using the exploding broccoli clip under the caption, "The test will not be graded," joking that the test doesn't matter in that case, garnering over 170,000 views in three weeks.

On September 12th, YouTuber^[5] juggerNOT posted a similar version of the meme captioned, "When I open the assignment and it isn't due tomorrow," garnering over 2.4 million views in two weeks.

On September 13th, YouTuber^[6] RickOps posted a version of the meme that reverses the clip under a caption about a boy being born with a crippling gambling addiction, garnering over 120,000 views in a week.

On September 27th, TikToker^[7] @camro.kam posted a version of the meme about wanting to study, but deciding not to after your mother asks you to study, garnering over 3.3 million views in two days.
