About

Fanum Tax refers to a running gag a part of Twitch streamer Fanum's streams in which he "taxes" other AMP members like Kai Cenat when they're eating food, taking a small part of their meal. The phenomenon started on AMP streams in late 2022, spreading via clips on YouTube and TikTok. In late 2023, the phrase "Fanum tax" became a widely used slang term among Gen Z and Gen Alpha members, resulting in satirical usage that parodied the phrase's over-usage. In October 2023, Fanum tax became associated with the Sticking Out Your Gyat for the Rizzler song, also known as the "Fanum Tax" song.

Origin

On December 23rd, 2022, a clip was posted by YouTuber[1] KC3FEETT from a then-recent, Christmas-themed Kai Cenat stream in which Fanum kicked down Cenat's door to steal cookies from him. Spread

Going into 2023, the phrase "Fanum tax" started to be used by the AMP streamers, evident in viral clips posted to TikTok[2][3] in June 2023. For instance, one of the first known parody uses was a video posted by TikToker[5] @jaksin21 on July 18th, 2023, which posed a POV scenario about "the kid that swears he has rizz hits on you," gaining roughly 8 million plays and 1.2 million likes in three months (shown below, left).

On August 19th, 2023, TikToker[6] @zacharylovesanime also parodied a cringe kid saying "Fanum tax" in a video that received roughly 869,600 plays and 87,200 likes in two months (shown below, right).
