About
Feral Girl Summer is a slang term used in reference to a summer season where girls act carelessly and "feral" in the name of having a good time by partying, acting chaotic, drinking and generally not caring what others think of your behavior. The term was coined in 2019 and became popularized on TikTok in February 2022 in videos celebrating the "feral party rat" lifestyle.
Origin
It's unclear when the term "feral girl summer" was first coined, but is likely inspired by the term "Hot Girl Summer." The first available tweet using the phrase was posted by Twitter[11] user @CU22PBBY on July 6th, 2019, writing, "hot girl summer is over and feral girl summer is just beginning" (shown below). On June 23rd, 2021, Vice[9] published an article titled "The Freedom of ‘Feral Girl Summer,’" linking to a tweet[10] from August 2019 using the term.
