The memes were popularized on TikTok throughout late November and December 2024 and are often set to the song "Scott Pilgrim V. My Gpa" by Mom Jeans.

On November 26th, 2024, TikToker[1] @_ben_muir_ posted a video walking while wearing a scarf set to "Scott Pilgrim vs. My GPA" captioned, "Wearing a scarf for the first time. Everyone here knows I'm not a scarf wearer. 'He's not a real scarf wearer' they all chant in unison." The video gained over 7.5 million views in just over a month.
