Gemma Collins' Stage Fail refers to a series of videos, jokes, remixes and memes made from a viral video of British reality TV star Gemma Collins falling at the BBC's Radio 1 Teen Awards in October 2017.

Origin

On October 22nd, 2017, Gemma Collins, the British reality TV star of The Only Way Is Essex presented the award for Best TV Show at the BBC's Radio 1 Teen Awards.[1] That night, the YouTube [2] account for Universal Media Online published a video of the fall, received more than 100,000 views in less than 24 hours.

After the fall, Twitter [4] user @RyanJL tweeted a video of it with the captioned "OH MY GOD. Gemma Collins just fell down a hole on stage after announcing the winner of Best TV Show at the #R1TeenAwards. She seems ok!" The post (shown below) received more than 8,000 retweets and 14,000 likes in less than 24 hours.


Twitter user @IDGAFDlNAH posted a different angle of the fall with the caption "OI GUYS GEMMA COLLINS JUST FELL OFF STAGE IM SCREAMING." The post (shown below) received more than 19,000 retweets and 36,000 likes in less than 24 hours.


Following the event, Gemma Collins posted a picture of herself presenting with the caption "Have you had an accident at work?" on her official Instagram. [3] The post (shown below) received more than 69,000 likes in 20 hours.

As the video of her fall grew in popularity, people online began remixing the footage. Twitter user @AshgriffoTV posted a gif of the fall happening in reverse. He captioned the post (shown below)
"THIS GIF OF GEMMA COLLINS KILLING ME OFF 😂😂😂😂😂 " Within 24 hours, the post received more than 80 retweets and 230 likes.


Additionally, that day, the Twitter account @TitanicOnThings tweeted the video with the Celine Dion song "My Heart Will Go On" dubbed over it. The post (shown below) received more than 7,000 reweets and 11,000 likes in less than 24 hours.

Several media outlets covered the fall, including The Sun,[7] Mirror,[8] NME[9] and more.
