German Priest Rap refers to a viral video of a German priest rapping from the altar. Originally posted in February 2023, the video went viral on social media in December 2023 with viral reactions and humorous captions.

Origin

On February 21st, 2023, YouTube[1] channel Main-Post posted a video of a Catholic priest wearing a baseball cap and a golden chain rapping from an during a church service. The video (shown below) received over 5.6 million views in ten months.



On March 12th, 2023, X[2] / Twitter user @CatholicArena posted the video to the platform, where it received over 3,400 reposts and 14,000 likes in nine months (shown below).

The video did not spark viral reactions until December 2023. On December 9th, X[3] / Twitter user @socialaskan quoted the March post, commenting, "He’s kind of better at this than you would think." The post (shown below) received over 1,200 reposts and 20,000 likes in three days.

On December 10th, 2023 X[4] user @AndromedaPip posted a You Smoke Too Tough meme that used the video. The post (shown below) received over 6,600 reposts and 58,000 likes in three days.

More reactions to the video went viral on X in mid-December 2023.
