A ghost is a mythical manifestation of a deceased person's soul in the world of the living.

Origin

Ghosts being with the ancient Mesopotamian mythologies and permeated the Abrahamic religions which are still alive today. (Jacobsen, Thorkild (1978). The treasures of darkness: a history of Mesopotamian religion. Yale University Press.) Ghosts were also present in East Asian culture, mainly China. [1]

Spread

Ghosts in popular mythology persist as mainstream to this day, bolstered by the art of photography, with such famous images as the Brown Lady. In pop culture, ghosts feature in shows such as Ghost Hunters and films such as Ghostbusters and video game such as Pac-Man
