The <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightmarchers">Night Marchers</a> are a procession of ghostly warriors that march through the islands of Hawaii on their way to ancient battle sites, kidnapping and killing any who get in their way. If you are a Native Hawaiian, you may be fortunate enough to have an ancestor among their ranks who will yell out "Na'u!", which means "mine" in Hawaiian. No one in the warrior procession will harm them. If not, your best hope is to lie face down on the ground, breathe shallowly and ignore any attempts they make to provoke you as they pass by. The Night Marchers announce themselves with the banging of war drums and the blowing of conches to give any mortals in their path a fair warning of their coming and they can be seen from afar due to the torches they carry. Occasionally the Hawaiian gods will join them in their march and on such nights, the torches at the front, back and mid-section of the march burn twice as bright. Despite all of this, the procession of the Night Marchers does not always take place at night and is not always accompanied by the sounds of drumming or conches. This is due to the procession adjusting itself to the personality of the King, Chief or Chiefess leading it.
