The World If
About
The World If, also known as How Society Would Look and Imagine the World Without, is a series of image macros in which an illustration of a futuristic utopia is captioned with a variation of the phrasal templates "The world if X" and "society if X" had happened.
Origin
The earliest available example of the image was on February 23rd, 2018 by Twitter [1] user @bhrisgreen, who posted a city of city in space with the caption "society if bobby shmurda never went to jail." The post (shown below) received more than 5 retweets and 10 likes in six months.
Spread
Around the time of the initial post, the now-defunct Instagram [5] account @zyrethesavage posted a similar image (shown below). On March 2nd, the Instagram[6] account @grapejuiceboys shared the image. The post received more than 28,000 likes in six months.
Months later, on July 6th, Twitter[2] user @SpaceyCorey tweeted another picture of the future utopia with the caption "america if leafyishere had never left from youtube." The post (shown below, left) received more than 385 retweets and 1,700 likes in two weeks.
The following day, Twitter[4] user @yahboycourage tweeted a future utopia image with the caption "America if Bobby Shurmda was free." The post (shown below, center) received more than 19,000 retweets and 41,000 likes in two weeks.
On July 13th, Twitter[3] user @yankouhai tweeted an image with the caption, "the world if k-pop was illegal." The post (shown below, right) received more than 8,300 retweets and 20,000 likes in one week.
