About
e621 is a website designed to archive and redistribute furry and anthropomorphic content. It is known for the abundant collection of yiff related materials in its gallery.
History
After the shutdown of Sidechan in 2007, e621 was created with the intention of hosting sidechan content. All personnel and assets were moved to the e621 web domain.
Mascot
In early 2010, the admins of the site held a contest to determine the mascot used to represent the site. After a failed rigging of the election, the administrators then took the top voted submissions and revealed a robotic-like cat named Hexerade to be the chosen mascot.
Features
Imageboard
Out of the three features on the site, the imageboard is the main focus and function. The site uses the booru style archival format for hosting image, flash, and video content.
Forums
The forums[3] of e621 are messageboards where users discuss, ask and share their opinions related to the site or content itself.
Wiki
The wiki[4] of the site is a list of all tags that can be added to a content. It explains every tag, what it's used for, what tags are aliased to it and what tags are implying them.
Highlights
e961/e926
In July 2009, e961 was launched with the intention of being a safe for work counterpart to e621.
However, the site got aliased to the original site in November 2009 due to traffic issues.
Users seeking safe for work content, can use the "rating:safe" tag to block mature, and sexual themed content.
It was rebuilt as e926 in 2012 and it displayed strictly SFW content from e621.
