About

Gotham TikTok, also known as Gotham FYP, refers to a TikTok trend in which creators pretend that Gotham (from Batman) is a real city. The TikTokers pretend that they're Gotham citizens and imagine TikTok drama and discourse that plausibly inserts the city. The trend started in early 2024.

Origin

On February 4th, 2024, TikToker[1] @jazztoons posted a video in which she was imagining what a Snapchat story from a Gotham resident would look like, gaining over 126,800 plays and 39,900 likes in a month (shown below).

@red_finch The Recycling program is actually really good here #fyp #foryou #dccomics #batman #gotham ♬ original sound – Red

Spread

Going into February 2024, TikToker[2] @jazztoons continued her series, eventually inspiring others to create similar videos that imagined TikToks instead of Snapchat stories. For instance, on March 14th, 2024, TikToker[3] @frosties4lyfe posted a Gotham TikTok, gaining over 132,800 plays and 41,000 likes in 13 days (shown below, left).

On March 20th, 2024, TikToker[4] @aria.noni added to the trend, gaining over 176,600 plays and 49,500 likes in a week (shown below, right).

@frosties4lyfe There was a period of time where Batman was in contention, but only when Brucie was out of town getting treated for "Lyme disease". Makes one think 🤔 #batman #nightwing #gothamtiktok #dccomics #comics ♬ original sound – Frosties

@aria.noni I got the idea from @Frosties!!! I thought it would be fun #gotham #batfam #fyp #batmandc #dcuniverse #batmanmemes ♬ original sound – The Universal Nerd

Iterations of the trend continued to go viral in late March 2024, like a video posted by TikToker[5] @fantasticfrankey on March 24th, 2024, that joked about Keith Lee rating Gotham as the worst city to eat in, gaining over 309,900 plays and 78,200 likes in three days (shown below).

@fantasticfrankey Tired of ya talking about my city #gothamcity #gothamtiktok #redhood #twoface #joker #batman @The Universal Nerd ♬ original sound – fantasticfrankey
