Guys Have Only Four Ways Out Of Depression refers to an exploitable image macro that uses Wojak characters, specifically the Doomer Wojak, to demonstrate four ways men overcome depression in a humorous manner. The original meme was uploaded to iFunny in August 2021 and quickly spread to Twitter, Reddit and Instagram, being exploited by various creators who replaced images in the four panels.
Origin
On August 28th, 2021, iFunnier @MrVersus01 uploaded the first version of the meme,[1] providing the only four ways men can overcome depression, which included enlisting in a Balkan war, becoming physically fit, finding a Doomer Girl to date or hanging oneself. The meme (shown below) was featured on iFunny and received roughly 100,000 smiles over the course of 26 days.
Spread
On August 28th, 2021, the original image spread to Twitter, posted by user @PunishedBones,[2] who received roughly 925 likes for his tweet. On August 29th, 2021, the image spread to Reddit, being posted in the subreddit /r/SaimanSays by user Madhav_Ar.[3]
On August 28th, 2021, the template was remixed on Twitter[4] by the cryptocurrency meme page @Crypto_Daily, who tweeted[4] a photo (shown below) replacing the last panel of the template with a photo of Pepe the Frog and Bitcoin. The tweet received roughly 205 likes over the course of 26 days
On September 1st, 2021, the template was used on the subreddit /r/2balkan4you by u/socceralex10.[5] The Redditor replaced the last panel of the meme to be a Wojak hugging Wojak Jesus from the Stop Giving Me Your Toughest Battles meme. The image (shown below) received roughly 237 upvotes over the course of 22 days.
More meme creators began re-editing the template, replacing various panels with their own ideas of ways men can overcome depression. For instance, the Instagram[6] meme account @sixhundredandsixtysixmemes uploaded a remix on September 21st, 2021, replacing one panel with Rick Owens shoes and another with a LUCKI album cover.
