Hawk Tuah's Pookie, also known as Haliey Welch's BF, refers to memes and discourse about Hawk Tuah Girl Haliey Welch's boyfriend, who was kept private and only referred to as "pookie" until November 12th, 2024, when he was revealed on the Talk Tuah podcast. Leading up to the reveal, Welch teased Pookie's existence numerous times, referring to their relationship as on-and-off. The repeated mentions of Pookie inspired discussions and memes about who Pookie might be. During the reveal podcast, it was unveiled that Pookie is Welch's friend and co-host Chelsea's cousin.

Origin

Pookie was first referenced by Haliey Welch in the original, full version of the viral Hawk Tuah street-interview video, released on the Tim & Dee TV YouTube^[1] channel on June 23rd, 2024. At the 8:26 mark, the interviewer asks Welch to leave a message to her "last body," after which she says, "I love you Pookie, forever!"

Welch continued to bring up Pookie over the following months, with memes and discourse about Pookie also routinely going viral in the latter half of 2024. On July 1st, 2024, TikToker^[2] @funny.videos5116 posted the "I love you Pookie" clip, garnering over 28 million views in four months. On September 10th, Welch discussed Pookie with comedian Whitney Cummings during Talk Tuah, expressing some disappointment over him not taking her on a date.^[3]

On September 16th, TikToker^[4] @talktuahedit posted a video hypothesizing on Pookie, suggesting he might be a man who was purportedly seen with Welch several times, garnering over 1.7 million views in two months.

On October 12th, X^[5] user @NFCNorthNewss falsely reported that football player Sam Darnold was Pookie, garnering over 1,200 likes in a month.

On October 16th, 2024, Welch posted a photo of herself with a bouquet of flowers to X,^[6] claiming that Pookie gave her the flowers in an interaction with Twitter reply guy @greg16676935420. Newsweek^[7] reported on the interaction on October 17th.

On October 17th, TikToker^[8] @godsdirtiestbird posted a video spreading the rumor about Darnold dating Welch, claiming that Darnold is having his best year ever and wondering if his success has anything to do with Welch's "hawk tuahs," garnering over 530,000 views in a month.

On November 10th, the @talktuahpod X^[9] account announced that Pookie would be revealed on November 12th. That same day, Welch posted a video compiling various times she's mentioned Pookie to X,^[10] advertising the reveal, garnering over 3,000 likes in two days.

On November 11th, 2024, the same X^[11] account posted another teaser, garnering over 1,500 likes in a day. Later that day, X^[12] user @saltydkdan quote-reposted the post, writing, "Guys, I may have something to reveal tomorrow," garnering over 15,000 likes in a day.

Pookie's Reveal

On November 12th, 2024, Talk Tuah episode 10 was released on YouTube,^[13] titled, "INTRODUCING POOKIE – Talk Tuah Ep 10 with Jake Paul." During the episode, Welch and her co-host, Chelsea, reveal and talk with Welch's boyfriend, still referred to as Pookie throughout the episode.

During the episode, it is revealed that Pookie is Chelsea's cousin. They get his reaction to the viral video and he talks about calling her to comfort her through it, claiming they weren't officially together at the time. Pookie claims they started "hooking up" for the first time in 2023. Pookie and Welch bicker about how he made her "chase after" him for three years prior to this and he explains that he was "working on himself" after a breakup before pursuing her.

Chase talks about how, at the start of the "three year chase," he and Haliey had their first kiss in a car in a Walmart parking lot, while one of Welch's friends KK was hidden in the back of the car under a blanket. He then got back with his girlfriend and they broke up again later on, finally leading him to pursue Welch.

Pookie reveals that he is a plumber and that people call him "Pookie" everywhere he goes. He then expresses how proud he is of Welch for finding success through her meme. Pookie explains how proud his dad is of Welch. At the 30:48 mark, Pookie is asked to do an impression of Welch and he mimics the "hawk tuah" meme.

The two discuss their first date at the restaurant J. Alexander's. They then talk about the first time Welch told him she loved him, claiming they were both drunk at a hotel and it was in the middle of intercourse. He then apparently laughed at her and she laughed back. They claim they hope to be married and having kids in five years. Pookie talks about how he doesn't like Welch's obsession with comedian Matt Rife. The episode then transitions to an interview with Jake Paul about his fight with Mike Tyson.
