About

Hello Nigga and other similar phrases like Hi Nigga and Greetings Nigga refers to a series of memes using staring animals and sigma stare images with a bottom caption reading "hello nigga," most often in Impact font. Some of the most notable versions used the shark in the woods meme and the staring eagle (also known as Marvin Beak) meme. The trend became prevalent on Instagram in early 2023 within hood irony meme circles, specifically the pages @zuccy123456, @igotzucc.v2 and @deez.mp2.

Origin

Sometime prior to 2022, an unknown meme creator on Meme Generator[9] made a meme with Donald Trump reading "Hello Nigga." On September 9th, 2022, Instagram[1] user @thecreatinecowboy posted a meme that showed a frog and the Donald Trump meme side-by-side, each captioned with "Hello Nigga" in Impact font. The post gained roughly 1,100 likes in eight months and is currently the first discovered meme to use the caption (shown below).

HELLO HELLO N---- N----

Spread

On January 22nd, 2023, Instagram[2] user @family.guy.hood.moments2016 posted a meme using the phrase for an image of Rin Tohsaka from Fate driving a car, gaining over 400 likes in four months (shown below, left). On February 14th, 2023, Instagram[3] user @zuccy123456 posted a meme with a bottom caption over an image of a bald eagle, gaining roughly 26,700 likes in three months (shown below, right).

HELLO N---- HELLO N----

Instagram user @zuccy123456 would go on to be the main proponent of the trend. For instance, on March 6th, 2023, Instagram[4] user @zuccy123456 uploaded an iteration with a Shoebill Stork photo, gaining roughly 625,800 likes in two months (shown below, left). Others started to join the trend, substituting the words with different greetings. For instance, on April 16th, 2023, Instagram[5] user @hoodquotes2k posted one reading "Greetings Nigga," gaining over 200 likes in one month (shown below, right). It was then reposted by Instagram[6] user @zuccy123456 where it gained roughly 35,600 likes.

HELLO N---- GREETINGS N----

Going into May 2023, the memes continued to spread on Instagram.[7] Various memes from Instagram were also reposted to Reddit,[8] specifically on the /r/OkBuddyRetard subreddit.
