"Hey Its Me Ur Brother" is a memorable quote from a chat conversation on the Valve software distribution client Steam in which a user attempts to scam a Counter-Strike player out of an item by pretending to be his brother.
Origin
On June 22nd, 2014, Redditor EvilClone128[6] submitted a screenshot of a Steam chat conversation, in which a user attempts to scam EvilClone28 for his knife item (shown below). Prior to being archived, the post gained over 3,300 votes (95% upvoted) and 280 comments on the /r/GlobalOffensive[1] Counter-Strike subreddit.
Spread
The same day, FunnyJunk[5] user kingofdarkn uploaded the screenshot to the funny-pictures category, where it garnered more than 51,500 views and 1,300 points in the next year. On December 28th, 2014, Redditor dwimtrashggeuw reposted the screenshot to the niceb8m8 subreddit. On March 2nd, the screenshot was posted to the /b/ (random) board on 4chan.[8] On April 5th, Redditor RPK12 submitted a post asking about "hey its me ur brother" comments to the /r/OutOfTheLoop[4] subreddit. On April 28th, Multiplayer Game Hacking Forums[7] member BestBlitzcrank posted a thread about the attempted scam titled "Worst Scammer xD = 'hey its me ur brother'."
