About

How I See the World After X is a phrasal template that portrays optimism in the meme's creator after a certain event or activity. The snowclone became associated with an exploitable meme template showing a beautiful rainbow over a green landscape that meme creators would recaption. An alternate meme template showed dolphins jumping out of water. The activity that's namedropped in the phrase most often contrasts the innocence of the rainbow background. The meme started and trended en masse on Instagram in early 2023. In August 2024, the Symphony Dolphin meme emerged, which shares many similarities.

Origin

On December 3rd, 2022, Instagram[1] user @gorillagripcoochie69 posted a meme showing an Adobe[2] rainbow image macro and a caption reading, "How I see the world after I eat a big sandwich." Over the course of four months, the post received roughly 19,400 likes (shown below).

Spread

Soon after, the meme was reposted by other Instagram[3] users, leading to a post from Instagram[4] user @mento.vivere on December 4th, 2022, that was the first known recaption of the template, gaining over 390 likes in four months (shown below, left). On December 13th, Instagram[5] user @suckameme posted an iteration about shoplifting, earning over 430 likes in four months (shown below, right).

Reposts and other variations spread to Facebook [6] and Tumblr [7] in December 2022, leading to more viral posts in early 2023. For instance, on April 6th, 2023, Instagram[8] user @iamfuckingmagic posted an iteration with a new, underwater background showing dolphins. The text read, "How I see the world after having my yummy treat," and over the course of one week, the post gained roughly 19,600 likes (shown below).
