About

How People With Medical Conditions See The World is a catchphrase and caption used in a series of TikTok informational posts that try to educate others on how people with debilitating illnesses see the world around them. Originally starting as a series meant to entertain and provide information, going into 2023, some of the examples began to shift into more absurd memes that weren't grounded in medical knowledge as a form of reaction baiting.

Origin

One of the first examples of this trend comes from TikToker nursemattrn,[1] a registered nurse who earned over 1.2 million likes and 12.2 million views for his April 6th, 2022, TikTok showing how dyslexia works. He would follow this up by creating a series of these TikToks showing many different other illnesses that would cause people to see the world differently (shown below).

Spread

After the initial series created by TikToker nursemattrn in mid-2022, other accounts began to create their own long-form multi-part series on different medical conditions faced by people using the caption "How People With Medical Conditions See The World."

For example, on October 16th, 2022, TikToker starnpc[2] uploaded the first of a 44-part series going into different medical conditions, starting with aura migraines, earning over 7.9 million views and 450,000 likes in one year (shown below).

Starting in 2023, these types of posts began to experience a shift from a more medical and informational background to making a joke out of the condition being shown. One such example comes from the November 21st, 2023, post by TikToker johnmarcvanwyk3[3] in which he shows a parody of what it's like to have "dislexicism" and features talking in sentences out of order, earning over 5,600 likes in two months (shown below).
