Howie Dewitt, also known as This Is Howie Dewitt, refers to the Facebook profile of a man named Howie Dewitt whose name phonetically sounds like the catchphrase, "This is how we do it." The Howie Dewitt meme trended en masse in early 2023 on TikTok and Twitter when his name and profile pic were paired with Montell Jordan's song "This Is How We Do It."

Origin

On April 4th, 2012, Facebook^[1] user Howie Dewitt uploaded his first post. A few days later, on April 10th, 2012, he uploaded another selfie to Facebook^[2] of him in his car wearing blue reflective sunglasses, which then became his main profile pic (shown below).

Years later, on March 2nd, 2023, TikToker^[3] @thefoose7 posted a video that showed a screenshot of Howie Dewitt's Facebook profile. @thefoose7 added the song "This Is How We Do It" by Montell Jordan as the TikTok^[4] sound, essentially comparing the phonetic similarity between Dewitt's name and Jordan's song. Over the course of a month and a half, the video received roughly 510,500 plays and 53,200 likes (shown below).

On March 3rd, 2023, Twitter^[5] user @JeffMcDev tweeted a screenshot of Dewitt's Facebook profile, captioning it, "Montell Jordan losing his mind right now," and earning roughly 1,900 likes in a month and a half (shown below).

Later on the same day, March 3rd, 2023, TikToker^[6] @kevonstagetiktok green-screened himself in front of @JeffMcDev's tweet^[5] and followed a similar format to @thefoose7's TikTok,^[3] gaining roughly 2.4 million plays and 92,500 likes in a month and a half (shown below, left). More iterations soon followed, such as a video posted by TikToker^[7] @thehiphopdontstopmom on March 8th, that used a screenshot of a different Facebook user named Howie Dewitt, earning roughly 2.2 million plays and 66,000 likes in the same timeframe (shown below, right).

More Howie Dewitt memes and reposts were uploaded to Instagram ^[8] and YouTube ^[9] in March 2023.
