About

"Hyadain's Amazing Friendship" (Japanese: ヒャダインのじょーじょーゆーじょー; Hyadain no Jōjō Yūjō) is the second opening theme song for the TV anime adaptation of Nichijou, a Japanese comedy manga by Keiichi Arawi. After it's debut in July 2011, the song and its opening sequence have since inspired Japanese online users to create parodies, remixes, and MAD videos on the video sharing site Nico Nico Douga (NND).

Origin

The song was originally composed and sung by Japanese musician Kenichi Maeyamada[1], also known by his stage name Hyadain, as the second opening theme for the anime Nichijou,[12] produced by Kyoto Animation, and was used for episodes 14 and onward. The official music video for the song would later be uploaded to both Hyadain's official NND[2] and Youtube account (shown below, left) on July 19th, 2011. Hyadain also did work for the show by writing the first opening theme titled "Hyadain's One-sided Love-C," and is known on the Japanese net for his online work, such as Western Show on NND.

Spread

Much in the same way as "Hyadain's One-sided Love-C", "Hyadain's Amazing Friendship" immediately gained traction with MAD creators on NND. Most likely due to the song's infectious hook alongside the well-drawn animation of the opening, remixes, parodies, and musical covers of the opening began appearing on NND, even before the full-length song was officially released. One of the earliest parodies on NND was one which was part of the OK Go dancing X series,[3] and another which featured footage from the anime Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (shown below). This version is one of the most viewed of the parodies, gaining over 250,000 views on NND[4] in just two years. As of March 2013, there are over 790 videos relating to the opening theme that have been posted on Nico Nico Douga.[5]
