Can You Be Fat and Still Have Aura, spelled Can U Be Fat and Still Have Aura, refers to a catchphrase and image caption trend based on a viral X / Twitter post asking the question. The format, which involves combining the phrase with images of fat characters and celebrities who possess a certain vibe, coolness or je ne sais quoi, gained virality on X in late March 2024.
Origin
On March 23rd, 2024, X[1] / Twitter user @stevieres wrote, "can u be fat and still have aura." The post (shown below) garnered over 140 comments, 4,500 reposts and quotes, and 7,100 likes in nine days.
Starting on the same day, users on X[2] / Twitter commented with images of fat celebrities and characters who supposedly possess a certain aura. On that day, X user @_lil_caesars commented with a photo of rapper Rick Ross, with the reply garnering over 7,200 likes in nine days (shown below, left). Later that day, X[3] user @fvzzii quoted the post with an image of The Sopranos character Tony Soprano that received over 9,400 reposts and 117,000 likes in the same period (shown below, right).
Spread
On March 24th, 2024, tweleb and Twitter user @kirawontmiss quoted the image with a clip of the character Po from Kung Fu Panda. The post received over 15,000 reposts and 180,000 likes on X[4] in eight days (shown below).

The trend briefly subsided but regained popularity in late March 2024 following a March 30th post by X[5] user @buckwindow in which they quoted the post with a clip of Young Sheldon character George Cooper, Sr. The post received over 20,000 reposts and 197,000 in two days (shown below).

In late March and early April 2024, more users submitted to the trend, posting images and clips of celebrities and fictional characters alike.
