The opening to the song, which is just guitar chords strumming, has gone viral on TikTok in mid-2024 for being used in several different styles, primarily in TikToks revolving around the use of aura points and gaining or losing aura.

Origin

The song, which released with the 2020 album Everything Seems Better Now, was first uploaded to YouTube on September 9th, 2022, by the official vs self^[1] YouTube Channel, where it would go on to gain over 689,000 views in two years and had comments turned off shortly after posting (shown below).

On April 2nd, 2024, the TikToker optanechao^[2] uploaded a slowed version of the intro to TikTok, using it as a thirst trap hype edit for Based God and earning over 86,000 likes in five months while putting the audio on TikTok, where it was used on over 70,000 videos in five months (shown below).

Spread

Shortly after the audio was put onto TikTok, it was used in various aura TikToks. Early on, it was used as part of the "most amount of aura I've used on a level 1" trend, in which it was often the background audio used when a level 1 crook was getting aura used on them. An example of this was uploaded to TikTok on May 7th, 2024, by the TikToker^[3] soggyhuh who uploaded a video about aura being used on a level 1 thug and earned over 913,000 likes in four months (shown below).

One particularly widely viewed usage of the audio was as the background to the May 21st, 2024 TikTok^[4] by the TikToker sunntie, using it for the dominant version of the meme. In this usage, sunntei goes over the various ways to lose aura while in class, earning over 4.4 million likes in four months (shown below).
