I Bet They Won't Have refers to a scene from SpongeBob SquarePants in which Squidward is going through a grocery store and discovers it sells canned bread, to his delight. The scene has been parodied in numerous ways with Squidward discovering the store sells something different in each parody.

Origin

The scene comes from the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Squidville," which aired April 28th, 2001[1] (shown below).



Spread

Remixes of the scene began appearing on Instagram and YouTube in the autumn of 2018. While it's unclear which account first posted a parody of the scene, the earliest known parody of the scene was posted by YouTuber Locarpus on November 8th, 2018, using Sprite Cranberry as the punchline, gaining over 5,000 views (shown below, left). Another early example, credited to Instagram user coal.fm and reposted to YouTube by user berry nice, used canned coochie as the punchline, gaining over 237,000 views (shown below, right).



The format began gaining more attraction in the summer of 2020 alongside Glizzy. On August 8th, 2020, YouTuber Benson posted a Glizzy parody of the scene, gaining over 40,000 views (shown below, left). The meme continued to see use throughout the remainder of 2020. On December 17th, 2020, YouTuber Nitro.IF posted a Wocky Slush variation of the meme, gaining over 4,000 views (shown below, right).
