I Can't Stop Drinking Oil is a viral video created using Zoobe in which a witch poses on a table and repeatedly says, "I can't stop drinking oil. I just can't stop drinking crude oil." The video purportedly first appeared online around 2015 and resurfaced in 2023, becoming the subject of reactions and memes. In July 2024, the video went viral again after a user claimed it is fetish content, although this claim is unconfirmed.

Origin

The earliest online mention of the "I can't stop drinking oil" video is a post to /r/HelpMeFind^[1] made by u/Y1ff on January 29th, 2020. The post requests help finding a Zoobe video of a witch repeatedly saying "I can't stop drinking oil" and using the word "tantalizing" to describe the act of drinking oil. They write, "I swear this is a real thing that I found so hilarious back in 2015 or whatever but it might be slightly older or newer. It was on Tumblr, but Tumblr's search sucks." The post gained only a single upvote in four years.

The earliest available upload of the video was posted by X^[2] user @_rebenji on June 18th, 2023. On that day, the user posted the video in response to another post about how the Zoobe app is considered lost media, writing, "Crude oil you will always be famous." The post gained over 5,100 likes in a year. On June 20th, it was reuploaded to YouTube^[3] by Fridgemasters, garnering over 340,000 views in a year (shown below).

Spread

The video gained further viral spread throughout the 2020s. On June 21st, 2023, it was posted by TikToker^[4] @mikucrops, garnering over 60,000 likes in a year. On June 26th, it was posted as a copypasta to /r/copypasta,^[5] reading:

On September 23rd, X^[6] user @kettakujo posted the video in response to a now-deleted post, garnering over 4,800 likes in 10 months. On April 19th, 2024, TikToker^[7] @igreenscreenthings posted a green screen edit of the video, isolating the witch, garnering over 1.4 million views in three months (shown below, left). On April 20th, TikToker^[8] nova.and.silas posted a video using the green screen, garnering over 450,000 views in the same rough span of time (shown below, right).

On July 17th, X^[9] user @kettakujo quote-reposted their 2023 post sharing the video, writing, "recently found out that this was a fetish video," garnering over 53,000 likess and 3,000 reposts in two days (shown below). It is unclear where they purportedly learned this and it is unconfirmed if this is true.
