I Once Pretended To Have A Psychotic Episode… refers to an anonymous comment from 4chan that later became a copypasta. The full text reads, "I once pretended to have a psychotic episode and smashed a macbook with a bat to keep my brother and his fiancee from stumbling across pictures I photoshopped of her giving birth to me."

Origin

On an unknown date, an anonymous 4chan user told the story about faking a psychotic break and destroying his Macbook so that his brother's fiancée wouldn't find images he'd photoshopped of her giving birth to him. It's unclear when it was first posted. One of the earliest known references to the post was posted on June 29th, 2015, as a question to Tumblr user re2make's inbox[3] (shown below).

The earliest known existing repost of the comment was made on April 24th, 2019 in Reddit's /r/brandnewsentence,[1] where it gained over 5,000 points in nearly four years (shown below). On October 3rd, 2020, it was reposted to /r/sadcringe,[2] where it gained over 34,000 points in two and a half years.

On January 31st, 2023, Justin Whang posted[4] a photoshopped tweet by Atrioc, joking about Atrioc's Deepfake Controversy. The tweet gained over 300 retweets and 7,400 likes in two days (shown below).
