I Think You Guys Might Be Thinking About Yourselves Too Much is a catchphrase, reaction image and exploitable meme inspired by a Q&A Instagram Story posted by Jemima Kirke, best known for playing the character Jessa in HBO's Girls. The line was in response to a question asking for advice for "unconfident young women." The quote has since been edited and reposted to joke about other things people might be thinking too much about.

Origin

On November 30th, 2022, Jemima Kirke hosted a question-and-answer session on her Instagram^[1] Story. One of the questions asked was, "an advice to unconfident young women?" to which Kirke responded with a smug-looking selfie and text that read, "I think you guys might be thinking about yourselves too much" (seen below).

Spread

A screenshot of the post was reposted to the subreddit /r/girls by Redditor /u/MidnightThunderstorm^[4] on October 7th, 2023, and to X by @pastapilled on June 29th, where it gathered over 96,000 likes in 10 months.^[2]

On December 26th, 2023, X^[3] user @imbethmccoll posted the image in reaction to a post asserting that there is a "stigma" against going to the movies, gathering over 3,000 likes in three months (seen below, left). On February 8th, 2024, X^[5] user @allstoowelI used the image to respond to a post that exhibited Eldest Daughter Syndrome. The post gathered nearly 60,000 likes in a month (seen below, right).

On February 17th, 2024, X^[6] user @timeselastic posted an edited version of the meme, now reading, "I think you guys might be thinking about Joe Alwyn too much," and gathering over 10,000 likes in a month (seen below, left). On March 8th the Instagram^[7] page @fascinatingstreet posted a version of the meme that read, "I think you guys might be thinking about the size of other women's boobs too much," gathering over 1,000 likes in three weeks (seen below, right).
