I Will Hang You Like Laundry Nigga refers to a series of memes in which various characters threaten another character from a different franchise who is challenging them, saying that they "will hang them like laundry," meaning that they will easily beat them. Spawned by a viral meme imagining the outcome of a battle between Son Goku and Satoru Gojo, the format saw spread on X / Twitter in the fall of 2024.
Origin
On August 7th, 2024, X[1] user @Zedwontmiss posted a meme inquiring about a theoretical matchup between anime characters Satoru Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen and Goku from Dragon Ball, asking if Goku would be able to get past Gojo's domain expansion technique.
On August 9th, X[2] user @CerealMerge replied to the post with a three-panel comic in which Gojo uses his ability, only for Goku to reply, "I will hang you like laundry nigga" and promptly defeat the opponent. The post (shown below) garnered over 1,400 reposts and 19,000 likes in three months.
Spread
On September 3rd, 2024, X[2] user @Extralongdokkan reposted the comic, removing the last panel. The repost accumulated over 1.8 million views, 3,700 reposts and 68,000 likes in two months.
On October 27th, 2024, X[3] user @NemuiDaysu posted the earliest derivative meme within the format, a two-panel comic imagining Persona 5 character Ren Amamiya threatening JoJo's Bizarre Adventure character Giorno Giovanna. The post (shown below) received over 2,800 reposts and 48,000 likes in one month.
On November 17th, 2024, following the release the the November 2024 Death Battle episode "Bowser VS Eggman", in which Infinite from Sonic the Hedgehog gets crushed by Thwomp from Super Mario Bros, X[4] user @RadientQuartz posted a version of the meme based on the two characters. The post (shown below) received over 1,400 reposts and 10,000 likes in four days.
More versions of the meme featuring various pairs of characters were circulated on X / Twitter in November 2024.
