I Will Now Perform My People's Native Dance refers to a scene from adult animated series Futurama in which Fry dances to The Hustle by Van McCoy. Edits of the scene first became popular in 2012, then returned in 2023, following its 2023 continuation and the Fortnite x Futurama crossover event.

Origin

On November 17th, 2002, season 5, episode 2, of the adult animated series Futurama, titled "Jurassic Bark," aired on American television.^[8] In one scene, in order to obtain his petrified dog from the Museum, in protest, Fry declares "I will now perform my people's native dance," turns a boombox on and dances to The Hustle by Van McCoy. On August 27th, 2009, YouTuber^[1] idannedy uploaded the clip, receiving over 268,000 views and 1,540 likes in just over two years. The video has since been set to private (mirror shown below).

On January 21st, 2012, YouTuber^[2] SpottWelt uploaded the earliest known edit, a reanimated version of the scene featuring Hatsune Miku and other Vocaloids, made in Miku Miku Dance. The video received roughly 9,100 views and 160 likes in over 11 years (shown below).

On June 18th, 2012, YouTuber^[3] Trogtor uploaded the first known music edit in which Fry dances to Run Away, more colloquial known as Epic Sax, receiving over 11,300 views and 100 likes in over 11 years (shown below, left). On September 3rd, 2012, Youtuber^[4] watxthexphuck uploaded an extended version of the clip in which Fry dances to the full-length song, receiving over 269,000 views and 4,200 likes in nearly 11 years (shown below, right).

On November 20th 2014, YouTuber^[5] Recursive Sweatpants (@Yoshermon) uploaded a reanimated version of the scene, where Foxy, from Five Nights at Freddy's" performs Fry's dance to The Hustle, receiving over 1.2 million views and 7,700 likes in nine years (shown below).

On July 26th, 2023, following the 2023 revival of the Futurama series, Fortnite announced and released its crossover event with Futurama, which added Fry, Leela, and Bender as costumes and Futurama-related accessories.^[6] The trailer (shown below) received over 5 million views and 37,000 likes in three weeks.

On July 27th, 2023, YouTuber^[7] MisterPrawn uploaded an edit titled "Native Default Dance," superimposing the 3D model of Fry from the crossover performing the Fortnite Default Dance, receiving over 1 million views and 35,000 likes in 3 weeks (show below).
