The jokes were celebrated by people who were not fans of Whedon for sending up the writer. User @bameballs[4] tweeted, "'If it was written by Joss Whedon' is the Whedon bashing I've been waiting for. Sorry, not sorry. Fuck Whedon. And not in the good way" (shown below, left). @MeganBitchell[5] reflected on the meme she started, writing, "I literally can’t stop retweeting the 'if it was written by Joss Whedon' posts I love them so much," gaining over 430 likes (shown below, right).

Oh wow, a nazi with a gun, how original. Let me guess, you're gonna tell me to say "Heil Hitler" instead of "Cheese" when you take the photo.
Don't worry, I'm fine. Just a little flesh wound. You know, like that scene from Monty Python? I always preferred Life of Brian but it's still good.
I'm sorry, you said your name was Hannibal and you're a... Cannibal? Little on the nose, don't you think? That's like if your parents named you Dr. Eats People.

Am I the only one who doesn't like trends like these where people suddenly start ridiculing something that years ago was generally well-liked and acting like nobody actually liked it?

Like, before, while he wasn't exactly universally loved, people still held Whedon in a fairly high regard, hell, even his writing style was recognizable enough that some people actually used the term "Whedon-like" in a positive light when talking about works with witty writing (ie, Kid Icarus: Uprising).

…but NOW suddenly he deserves to be ridiculed and act like his works and writing were always garbage? Really?

Come on, this is ridiculous.

Joss Whedon is too oversaturated.

His sense of humor and writing is fine enough when it's just him making smaller-name movies

But his style became the sole template for every huge-budget super-hero movie which is bad enough by itself, but add in that there was, what? 6+ super hero movies every single year for a decade? and his style was nearly the only style in hollywood, whether by him or people told to imitate him.

Even beloved masters of the medium like Scorsese, Tarantino or Hitchcock would be resented and mocked if 80% of movies were made by them or their imitators.
