About

Iggy Azalea Freestyling refers to a video of Australian hip hop singer and rapper Iggy Azalea attempting to rap freestyle in 2013. It resurfaced in late 2014, resulting in widespread online criticism and mockery of her perceived lack of skill.

Origin

In 2013, Australian rapper Iggy Azalea was interviewed by radio deejay Sway, in which she was asked to give a spur-of-the-moment performance. A video of the rap that she gave was posted to YouTube by Sway's official account on June 18th, 2013.

Spread

In December 2014, a clip from the freestyle was posted on Vine with the title "Iggy Azalea slaying every rapper in the game with this freestyle on Sway in the Morning #iggyazalea" (shown below). Following the video, social media users took to websites such as Twitter, Tumblr, and Vine to poke fun at Azalea's performance.

On December 28th, 2014, celebrity news site That Grape Juice published an article[2] about the reaction of social media to the video, featuring a compilation of Twitter users satirizing Azalea's choice of lyrics (example below). The story was also covered by Mic[4] and USA Today[3] on December 29th and 31st respectively.

I apologize for spamming. I joined knowyourmeme to post this because I felt it had reached a point where it could be considered one. I was under the impression that this site was similar to Wikipedia, where users could add more information as they see fit, so I put the few basics I knew of and was expecting others to contribute to the entry with whatever information is necessary. If the entry is deemed too bare-bones to be approved, then that's that. Please consider giving helpful advice for posting a better entry to someone who you obviously are aware is new, instead of just useless critiques that can't even be warped into something constructive. Thanks!
