I'm All Ears is an idiom used to signal that the speaker is ready to listen to what another has to say. Online, it has been used in multiple memes that literalize the idiom, pairing the phrase with characters with comically oversized ears or are literally made entirely of ears.

Origin

It is believed that the earliest appearance of the idiom "I'm All Ears" was in The London Magazine, published in 1752.^[1] Online, on September 18th, 2008, Urban Dictionary^[2] user PatrickMcBadass uploaded the earliest definition of it, calling it, "the act of attempting to tell someone you are willing to talk to them and listen to what they have to say" (shown below).

Spread

In the late 2010s, the idiom gained popularity in memes using edits of characters or animals that have big or many ears. For example on November 29th, 2018, a now-deleted Reddit^[3] user uploaded an edit of a man made of ears with a caption reading "go ahead, say something. I'm all ears" to the /r/surrealmemes subreddit. The post received more than 3,400 upvotes in five years (shown below, left). On January 13th, 2021, Reddit^[4] user JennaTool uploaded an image macro of human-shaped ears with the caption "Go on. I'm all ears" to the /r/memes subreddit. The post received more than 9,500 upvotes in three years (shown below, right).

On October 5th, 2022, Reddit^[5] user Kenny-McCormick uploaded an edit of human-shaped ears with caption "I'm all ears" to the /r/antimeme subreddit. The post received more than 2,500 upvotes in one year (shown below, left). On December 3rd, 2023, Reddit^[6] user AnyHealth7841 uploaded Neco-Arc fan art giving the characters exceptionally big ears captioned "Go ahead I'm all ears" to the /r/necoarc subreddit. The post received more than 1,500 upvotes in three months (shown below, right).

On July 23rd, 2023, Reddit^[7] user Mkrazcal uploaded an edit using JoJo's Bizarre Adventure part 5: Golden Wind scene to the /r/ShitPostCrusaders subreddit. The post received more than 3,200 upvotes in eight months (shown below).
