About
Insane Letterboxd Reviews are satirical reviews of various films on the film website Letterboxd. The reviews often have a tongue-in-cheek approach and are similar to Steam User Reviews on Steam, Valve's online marketplace.
Origin
Letterboxd launched in October 2011 as a social networking site for film watchers, allowing them to keep track of the films they've watched with the incorporated diary feature and leave reviews for films they have watched. Since the site's opening, users have posted satirical reviews of popular films, leading to some of the site's most popular community reviews being satirical in tone (examples shown below).
Spread
Since the site's inception, satirical reviews have been posted by multiple users on the site. Towards the end of the 2010s, the parody and satirical reviews began attracting media attention. Media news outlets like Buzzfeed covered the satirical reviews on the site on January 17th, 2019.[1] In December of 2019, the account @InsaneLetterbox was created that shares multiple satirical reviews from the site.[3] The account has garnered over 145K followers on Twitter as of November 15th, 2020.
