About
Inside Out is a 2015 computer-animated film produced by Disney and the Pixar studios. The movie revolves around a young American girl named Riley Anderson, and more specifically the five personified emotions living inside her head, who lead her though life as she moves to a new city along with her parents.
History
After the project was greenlit back in October 2009, Inside Out's first trailer (see below) was released on December 11th, 2014, and the movie was released to the public on June 19th, 2015. The story focuses on Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear, five emotions controlling the life of 11-years-old Riley, as she faces the discomfort of moving to a new home in California. After Joy tried to prevent Sadness to leave too much of a mark, the two of them are sucked away deeper in Riley's subconscious, along with her core memories, which they now need to bring back to the headquarters; meanwhile, Anger, Disgust and Fear are left alone to control Riley's decisions, slowly bringing her to depression.
Reception
The film was praised from audiences and critics worldwide. it is rated 8.1/10 on IMDb[1], while Rotten Tomatoes displays a review score of 98% and an audience score of 89%[2]. It grossed $858.8 million worldwide, and is widely considered to be one of Pixar's modern classics.
Online Presence
The movie's characters and concepts inspired a lot of memes and fan arts, especially inspired by Riley's emotions.
Sequel
Following the success of this first movie, its sequel Inside Out 2 was released on June 14th, 2024. In this movie, Riley's emotions are joined by four new emotions: Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui. This movie was another box-office success and another popular Pixar movie, although early on it has been criticized online for retconning the first movie's settings by introducing new emotions as characters.

What is Going on Inside Their Head
Do You Ever Look At Someone And Wonder: What is Going on Inside Their Head? is a line from the first trailer, where the camera zooms in to the mind of Riley's mom. In the edits of this scene, instead of showing the emotions in charge of Riley's mom, a bizarre, nonsensical video clip is displayed.
A Core Memory
A Core Memory , or A New Core Memory, is a line from the first Inside Out movie associated with Joy, when a new important memory of Riley's life appears in the form of a big marble. This scene has been as a reaction image in memes to describe events that are, ironically or sincerely, considered life-changing for someone. Moreover, following the release of Inside Out, the term "core memory" gained some significant traction online.
First Look at Inside Out's New Emotion Character
First Look at Inside Out's New Emotion Character is a type of shitpost from November 2023 parodying Inside Out 2's trailer, when Anxiety is revealed. This character is edited to be replaced by another, more nonsensical one.
