Is He Here? refers to a scene from mystery TV series Stranger Things in which character Dustin Henderson inquires about character's Steve Harrington's presence and meets him immediately after. In late July 2019, lipsync/object labeling parodies of the scene gained popularity on TikTok, with the format spreading to Reddit as a three-panel image in August 2019.

Origin

On July 4th, episode two "Chapter Two: The Mall Rats" of season three of the mystery TV series Stranger Things premiered on Netflix.^[1] In one scene of the episode, character Dustin Henderson enters an ice cream parlor and inquires if his friend Steve Harrington is currently present, with Harrington welcoming him immediately after.

TikTok

On July 24th, TikTok user @comfries posted a lipsync/object labeling parody based on the scene, with the post gaining over 630 likes in three weeks (shown below).^[2] In the following days, more users on the platforms posted similar videos, with notable posts by users @macyrayy,^[3] @_ryan.cea^[4] and @its_brooks^[5] (examples shown below, center and right).

Reddit

On August 2nd, 2019, Redditor Grapps used a three-panel format based on the scene for a meme, with the post gaining over 35,700 upvotes in one week (shown below).^[6]

Spread

In the following week, more memes based on the format were posted to Reddit, primarily to /r/dankmemes subreddit, including notable posts by users ZeroSuitMario^[7] and _Benjameme.^[8]
