It Is "Will You Marry Me" or As Long As It's Not "Will You Marry Me" refers to a series of animations and lip dubs based on a scene from Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason where Mark tries to propose to Bridget. The scene became popularized on TikTok in April 2023. Lip dubs to the scene first started appearing on the app in late 2021, becoming increasingly popular over the following years.
Origin
On November 3rd, 2004, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason was released. On June 27th, 2011, the Movieclips YouTube[1] channel uploaded a clip from the scene where Mark goes to ask Bridget to marry him, starting with, "In fact, there's a question I've been meaning to ask you." Bridget answers, "All right, as long as it's not 'will you marry me." There is an awkward pause and Bridget says, "Oh god, it is 'will you marry me.'" The video gained over 795,000 views in 12 years (shown below).
On February 6th, 2021, TikToker[2] @soundshares21 posted the scene, inspiring other TikTokers to post lip dubs reenacting it. One of the earliest known examples was posted by TikToker[3] @em_comley on October 1st, using Bridget's voice to represent Harry Potter character Lily Potter and Mark's to represent James, garnering over 44,600 views in two years (shown below).

The audio clip continued to inspire lip dubs on TikTok over the following years, as well as animations. On November 25th, 2022, TikToker[4] @andweaso posted a video lip dubbing to the scene, garnering over 4.3 million views in six months (shown below).

On March 21st, 2023, TikToker[5] @samijenart posted an animation set to the audio based on Genshin Impact that gained over 555,000 views in two months (shown below, left). On April 30th, TikToker[6] @abbyn367 posted an animatic that gained over 1.8 million views in five days (shown below, right).
