It's Always The Low-Quality Videos refers to a catchphrase and cliché that low-quality, pixelated videos are always funnier than clearer ones. It was first used on Twitter in 2020 but became notable on TikTok in 2021.

Origin

On May 17th, 2020 Twitter[1] user acrixmony posted a reply to a since-deleted video that stated, "It’s always the low quality videos," earning no likes after being posted (shown below). However, it is the first recorded utterance of the phrase.

On April 4th, 2021, TikToker[2] blushingjim1n posted a video, that in its description, used the catchphrase, earning roughly 69,200 plays and 16,600 likes in one year (shown below, left). On May 19th, 2021, TikToker[3] thxcker posted a video in which they had text overlay reading the catchphrase, earning roughly 969,200 plays and 281,200 likes in 11 months (shown below, right).

TikToks that used the catchphrase became increasingly viral going into the end of 2021, solidifying the concept. For instance, on September 10th, 2021, TikToker[4] muchiro_can_edit posted a video that earned roughly 7.8 million plays and 577,300 likes in seven months (shown below, left). On November 26th, 2021, TikToker[5] hoangbuiuk earned roughly 7.2 million plays and 295,00 likes in five months (shown below, right).

On December 26th, 2021, Twitter[6] user a619strike tweeted, "It’s always the low quality videos that be fucking hilarious," earning over 102,700 likes in four months (shown below).
